Description
“Castlevania – The Dracula X Chronicles” is a platform video game released on PSP. The game is a 2.5D re-creating of “Castlevania: Rondo of Blood”. This is the first time the original was made available from Japan. The game has a modified edition of “Castlevania – Symphony of the Night” in addition to the classic Rondo of Blood translated into English.
Gameplay
Firstly, Dracula X Chronicles includes a few small modifications. The main obstacle is composed of reddish skeletons, and the other obstacle is made from crystals, which are two new obstacles. These are implemented into the game in different sections. The player receives the appropriate items after saving Tera and Iris, which are needed to break these obstacles. There have been changes to the puzzles needed to save Iris and Annette. However, the Hydra is the new leader of Stage 5, which has a whole fresh design.
In Stage 7, the player has to fight a supernatural edition of Annette instead of Shaft’s spirit. This is because they chose not to save her, which calls for a terrible conclusion. If Annette is saved, this boss is transported to a different exit in Stage 5′. Once Annette is saved and Shaft’s ghost eliminated, Dracula transforms into a new form that needs to be destroyed to disclose the real conclusion.
There’s another Boss Rush mode, first featured in Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. The four stages in the mode vary in the kind of bosses they face. Moreover, using the PSP’s Ad-Hoc wireless connection, two players can play collaboratively in this mode. Previous dialogue scenes are changed or expanded, and fresh dialogue scenes are included. In advance of boss battles, brief intro cutscenes are included. Both English and Japanese versions are fully voiced. Moreover, the player can select their preferred language from the settings menu.
